Does everywhere you turn feel like an endless sea of things to do?

At The Parent Harbour® we understand and we don’t judge.

Parenting is hard. There are no doubts about that. The past few years have put pressure on parents like never before. A global pandemic, homeschooling, illness, working from home, heightened anxiety levels, the increase in the cost of living. It’s no wonder that parenting and family life feels hard right now. But feeling constantly overwhelmed by parenting could be a sign that you need to ask for help.

When you’re parenting without the resources you need to cope, whether that’s emotional or practical, parental burnout can happen.

Parental burnout is more common than you’d expect with up to 9% of parents in Western countries experiencing it. A combination of high expectations, picture-perfect social media and too many stressors and not enough resources leaves us feeling more disconnected and unsupported than ever before.

And this is without adding a child with additional needs or a parent with mental health difficulties into the mix…

Parental burnout isn’t postnatal depression, clinical depression or job-related burnout. Research has told us that there are four key areas that could indicate you might have parental burnout.

These are:

  1. Being physically and emotionally exhausted by parenting tasks and activities

  2. Feeling emotionally disconnected from your children and only having the capacity to meet their basic physical needs

  3. No longer enjoying being with your children or feeling pleasure in the parenting role

  4. Not being able to recognise yourself as a parent or feeling ashamed of the parent you have become

When you’re experiencing parental burnout, shame and guilt can stop you from reaching out for help.

I’ve learned from experience that exhaustion and stress strip family life of joy and that life doesn’t need to be like that.

If you just reach out for help…

The perfect parent doesn't exist, so give yourself a break

We need to ditch the idea of the perfect parent. It doesn’t exist.

Good enough, is enough and that’s what we should be aiming for.

There are easy steps that you can take to equip yourself with the skills and resources to make parenting feel more manageable. To help you feel more like yourself and more in control. The Parent Harbour® exists to do just that. Our focus on mental health and wellbeing offers a clear path to ease the mental load and move from just doing to enjoying.

By signing up and taking action, you’re taking the first step in looking after you and your mental health. And doing the best thing for you and your family.

IMPERFECTIONIST PARENT® CLUB

It takes a village to raise a family but for many of us these days, we don’t have that support. Building a network of friends that you can ask for help - whether that’s popping over for an hour or someone to listen and offer advice, is an important step to ease parental burnout.

Everyone who works 1:1 with me* is given access to the Imperfectionist Parent Club. The community is just starting out but we will be offering you access to self-guided courses, Q&A sessions and advice on building healthy, nourishing habits that replenish the body and the mind.

If you’ve not worked 1:1 with us, and want to join our community, click on the link below.

*Worked with us 1:1 and not sure how to login to the community? The community should be available via your client portal, but if you’re having difficulties, login to your portal and send us a message.

PRESS PAUSE ON PARENT STRESS

Parenting can feel like you’re lurching from one crisis to the next. The idea of pressing pause to catch your breath is a distant dream. The Google searches you’ve done and articles you’ve read have told you that you need to take care of yourself, do some self-care, and have a luxurious bubble bath. But who has time for that? And is that even what self-care is about?

The truth is, when you feel that way, that’s when you need to hit pause the most.

And self-care isn’t about spa days or one off luxurious events that never happen again. Self-care is about carving out time in your routine to create small habits that nourish your body and your mind.

You see, stress impacts us all differently. We all have different strengths and weaknesses and there’s no one way that stress or Parental Burnout affects us.

With Press Pause on Parent Stress, we’ll delve into your stress indicators and use them to find the right course for you. We’ll explore how to increase your resources and manage or remove your stresses and create an action plan to help you manage the load so your blood pressure doesn’t go through the roof when you look at your to-do list and life feels manageable.

What’s included:

  • Assessment to highlight your strengths, resources, stressors and areas for improvement

  • 60-minute consultation

  • Action Plan with the right support for you

  • 30-minute review meeting to talk through how things have gone and what the next steps should be
